Recap the events of the June 27th edition of Smackdown Live, from the Valley View Casino Centre in San Diego, California.

Daniel Bryan opens this edition of Smackdown Live. He says he’s proud of the Women’s evolution in WWE. He tells us we have the Women’s Championship Match: Naomi vs Lana as well as the Money In The Bank Ladder Match. As he’s talking, he’s interrupted, as Carmella and James Ellsworth make their way down to the ring. Carmella calls Smackdown Live the land of injustice as she was unjustly stripped of the briefcase. Carmella tells Daniel the rules of the match, highlighting that she won the match. She tells him he had no right taking the briefcase away from her. She claims she did nothing wrong. Bryan tells her she makes valid points, but he highlights that nobody has ever done what James Ellsworth did. He asks the Universe if he should cancel the Money In The Bank Ladder Match and it’s a resounding “NO!” Ellsworth tells the Universe to shut up and says they make him sick as they control the “stupid puppet” he says as he points at the GM. He calls Daniel pathetic, and says he’s a gutless spineless coward who can’t cut it in the ring anymore. Bryan says he should just fire Ellsworth, but instead he has him escorted from the arena and banned. Security come out to take Ellsworth away as Carmella pleads with the GM.

The Hype Bros vs The Usos

Zack starts against Jimmy as he gets an early near fall as he turns the action over to Mojo Rawley. Jimmy tags Jey after being the recipient of a double team manoeuvre. Mojo sends Jey to the outside and then Ryder flies, taking them both out. A distraction from Jimmy allows Jey to knock Ryder off the apron and turn the tide in the match. Ryder misses the Broski Boot and The Usos capitalise with a Samoan Splash. The Usos win via Pinfall.

They’re met by the New Day after the match, Xavier mocks them saying that they’re proud of The Usos for actually winning a match and not running away. Big E tells them they want the Championships. The Usos say they’ve already beat them and they don’t deserve a shot. They accept the challenge for Battleground and tell them it’s not about the New Day anymore. It’s about Day One ish. Woods tells them that they’ve got bars but all New Day do is spit hot fire. Kofi raps and calls them booty.

The Ascension play innocent and Fandango tries to bribe them. Breeze comes in and offers them iced tea and cheese. Viktor tells Breeze they only wanted a match on the card at Money In The Bank, they never attacked him. They leave their interrogation room to find their office trashed once again whilst they have Ascension in the room.

Smackdown Women’s Championship Match: Naomi vs Lana

Lana jumps the Champion before the bell and carries on the assault after the bell. She immediately hits the Sit-Out Spinebuster, but Naomi kicks out. A frustrated Lana gets caught off her game, as Naomi levels her with a big kick to the side of the head. Naomi drags her opponent into position and hits the Split-Legged Moonsault. Naomi wins via Pinfall. However, it does appear that Lana’s shoulder wasn’t down for the count.

Aiden English is back as he signs in the middle of the ring. He gets interrupted by Randy Orton. Orton RKOs Aiden English and he calls out Jinder Mahal. He says he won’t leave the ring until he gets what he wants. He wants a rematch for the WWE Title. He threatens to beat the holy hell out of Mahal unless he gets what he wants. Orton goes to find Jinder but out comes the Smackdown Live commissioner Shane McMahon. Shane tells him he can’t have Randy hold up the show or threaten the safety of the WWE Champion. Orton asks if he’s going to get fired and says if he is then he’ll buy tickets and attack Jinder from the crowd. He doesn’t care what happens because Mahal disrespected his family. Orton says he can make it complicated or Shane can make it easy. Shane agrees the Singh Brothers crossed the line, but he highlights that Orton has done the same thing in past when he went after the entire McMahon family. Shane understands how Randy is feeling and grants the rematch at Battleground. But he says Jinder Mahal will chose the stipulation of the match. Orton thanks Shane and says he doesn’t give a damn what the stipulation is. Jinder Mahal makes his entrance into the arena alongside the Singh Brothers. Jinder says this is exactly what’s wrong with Smackdown Live and management, as they all support Orton. He says Orton isn’t worthy of a rematch because he already beat him twice and once in his hometown in front of his father. Mahal says he’ll name a match made by a giant amongst men, and his hero The Great Khali. Jinder says the match will be a Punjabi Prison Match.

Women’s Money In The Bank Ladder Match

A mass brawl breaks out and Carmella immediately goes for a ladder. She sets up the ladder as the others fight outside the ring, but they all realise as Nattie pulls her down and attacks her and another fight breaks out. Tamina tries to climb up, but the other women pull her down and Becky sends her face first into the ladder. Tamina gets sent to the outside as Charlotte and Nattie try and double team Becky but she counters and fights them both off. Becky positions the ladder but Tamina gets her from behind and sends face first into the ladder before hitting a Samoan Drop. Tamina hits the Superfly Splash, the move made famous by her father Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka. Back from the break and all the women are laid out except Charlotte and Natalya who fight in the ring. Carmella joins the fray as her and Tamina fight on the outside. Charlotte and Natalya continue their fight but Nattie gets sent to the outside and Becky meets her with a Bexploder Suplex. Charlotte is left in the ring with Tamina and they fight for possession of the ladder. With both women fighting for the ladder, Becky runs in and climbs a perfectly upright ladder. They tip the ladder onto the ropes and Tamina knocks her off the ladder. Charlotte boots the ladder into the face of Tamina, but she turns around into a clothesline from Natalya. She picks up a ladder and throws it into Charlotte in the corner. She positions another ladder and climbs up towards the briefcase. Charlotte throws her ladder onto the standing ladder and climbs up to meet Natalya atop the ladder. The two women trade blows, but Carmella pushes the ladder over and takes them both out. Becky gets Carmella from behind and sends her out to the floor. She throws a ladder to the outside aiming for Natalya and Carmella but both move out of the way. Becky turns around into a Spear from Tamina. With everyone laid out, Natalya brings a ladder into the ring. She positions it and begins her climb, with her hands on the briefcase, Natalya is met by Charlotte on the ladder. Charlotte overtakes Nattie on the ladder and she’s met at the top by Becky Lynch. Tamina joins the fray with all four women on one ladder. The ladder tips and all four women fall to the floor. Carmella sneaks in and makes her climb to the top. All four women run back in, they physically pick up and move the ladder or the ropes so Carmella is far away from the briefcase. They then fight amongst themselves and Carmella takes out Becky and Natalya. Charlotte re-positions the ladder on top of Tamina trapping her underneath and hitting her in the face in the process. Charlotte climbs the ladder but she’s pulled down by Carmella. And out of nowhere, from underneath the ladder with one hand Tamina tips the ladder sending them both crashing to the floor. She nails Charlotte with a Superkick and positions the ladder for herself and begins her climb. She gets stopped by Natalya and Becky who both pull her down and powerbomb her. Nattie powerbombs Becky and then locks Carmella in the Sharpshooter. Charlotte boots Nattie’s head off and then hits Natural Selection on Carmella. Charlotte and Natalya go flying to the outside and battle into the Universe. Out of nowhere, James Ellsworth make his way back in, he picks Carmella up and puts her in the ring, he climbs the ladder again but Becky throws him off the ladder. Carmella stops Becky’s climb but she gets sent to the outside. Lynch tries to climb again, but Carmella halts her with a steel chair as she attacks the injured leg. Carmella climbs up and retrieves the briefcase. Carmella wins Money In The Bank.

Poor episode of Smackdown! Randy vs Jinder is really getting some heat behind it now, although I don’t understand the reasoning behind the return of the Punjab Prison Match, it wasn’t exactly a massive success last time. The Money In The Bank rematch was arguably better than the first one and I’m glad to say Carmella won it. I felt she deserved it more than anyone else. I’m going to give Smackdown Live, 4/10.
